Tarsonemidae of Southeast Asia

Of more than 500 species of Tarsonemidae, about 10 has been recorded from South East Asia. There has been no systematic study of this family in the region. The following is a list of species by country.

Asiocortarsonemus malayi Fain, 1971. Philippines

Coreitarsonemus anoplocnemis mictis Fain, 1978. Indoneisa

Coreitarsonemus philippinensis Fain, 1971. Philippines

Nasutitarsonemus alvuventris Ochoa, 1996. Indonesia

Tarsonemus platynopodae Magowski, 1986 Malaysia, Indoneisa

Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) Myanmar ,Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines

Tarsonemoides rakowiensis Kropczynska, 1965. Singapore

Tarsonemus bancrofti Michael, 1890 Philippines

Steneotarsonemus spinki Smiley, 1967. The Philippines, Thailand

 

Polyphagotarsonemus latus is undoubtedly the most important tarsonemid mite and has been known as an important pest of many crops and ornamentals wordwide. It is the equivalent of the twospotted spider mite in the Tarsonemidae. A second species of importance in this area is Steneotarsonemus spinki Smiley, which is a pest of rice.
