  • "Training in Mite Diagnostics: Course 2" was held in Applied Research Institute of Agricultural Quarantine (ARIAQ), Bekasi, Indonesia, 6-10 August 2014.  This course was funded by the New Zealand Government and is part of a large project on technical cooperation between Indonesia and New Zealand in areas of plant quarantine and food safety. Course 2 is on Parasitiformes and was lead by Prof Zhi-Qiang Zhang of Landcare Research. Dr Sherly George of Ministry for Primary Industries (Auckland, New Zealand) and Dr Sri Hartini (Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense, Zoology Division, Research Center for Biology, Indonesian Institute for Sciences, Cibinong, 16911 Bogor, Indonesia) are the co-trainers for this course.  There are 14 participants from Indonesia.
  • "Training in Mite Diagnostics: Course 1" was held in Applied Research Institute of Agricultural Quarantine (ARIAQ), Bekasi, Indonesia, 18-22 August 2014.  This course was funded by the New Zealand Government and is part of a large project on technical cooperation between Indonesia and New Zealand in areas of plant quarantine and food safety. Course 1 is an introduction to mites and was lead by Prof Zhi-Qiang Zhang of Landcare Research. Dr Qinghai Fan of Ministry for Primary Industries is the co-trainer for this course.  There are 14 participants from Indonesia.
  • Specialist Training on Stored Product Mites (Acari), 25 July to 12 August 2011This project provided a short-term attachment to a New Zealand laboratory specialising in the diagnostics of stored product mites (Acari). Two ASEAN scientists (Hanani ZAINOL of Malaysia and Ploychompoo KONVIPASRUANG of Thailand) who have already begun to specialise in the target group travelled to the New Zealand laboratory, for the purpose of specialist training in the diagnostics of stored product mites. This specialist training provides a foundation for ASEAN countries to improve their regional diagnostic capacity by developing additional skills in the identification of selected groups of plant pests and improving networking among those plant health professionals who participate.
  • Delivery of diagnostic mentoring on phytophagous mites (Acari) in Lao PDR, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand, which was conducted by Dr Zhi-Qiang Zhang  in June 2009 to provide: (1) in-country training on technical skills appropriate for collection, preparation and curation of mites; (2) Identifications of important taxa of phytophagous mites; (3) Discussion or preliminary work on any future collaborative opportunities; and (4) Establishment of this website for relevant taxonomic and other resources. The project was funded by the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Capacity Building Program (SPS CBP), which is an AusAID-funded regional program managed by the Office of the Chief Plant Protection Officer within the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Lao PDR (1-2 June 2009)                                                      Cambodia (4-5 June 2009)

Myanmar (8-10 June 2009)

  • Workshop on Diagnostics of Phytophagous Mites (Acari), which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 5-10 May 2008, with participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. That workshop was run by Dr Zhi-Qiang Zhang (assisted by Yusof Othman) and focused on the identification, preparation and collection of phytophagous mites of the families Tetranychidae, Tenuipalpidae, Tarsonemidae and Eriophyidae, covering the concept of a diagnostic standard and included sessions on the morphology, biology and ecology of mites and the management and control of mite infestations. The project was funded by the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Capacity Building Program (SPS CBP), which is an AusAID-funded regional program managed by the Office of the Chief Plant Protection Officer within the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Created by Dr Zhi-Qiang Zhang; hosted by  Systematic & Applied Acarology Society
